Mahindra and Mahindra’s big launches always come with certain caveats. We have seen a number of problems cropping up after the launch of Mahindra XUV500 and in recent times, recall of the XUV700 and the Thar. Mahindra introduced another super-popular SUV earlier this year – the Scorpio-N. While the deliveries of the all-new Scorpio-N started earlier this week, it seems like customers have started facing issues.

Shikha Srivastava, an owner of Mahindra Scorpio-N, took the car’s delivery on the first official delivery date – 26 September. She took it to Twitter to raise a complaint and tagged the big honchos at Mahindra including Anish Shah, MD & CEO, and the bossman Anand Mahindra. The owner Shikha Srivastava uploaded videos and pictures of the problem on Twitter and requested of immediate action. Apart from a few likes of re-tweets, we could not find any official response from Mahindra.

According to the post, the problem surfaced when she was driving the car. The clutch and gear got stuck and stopped working. The clutch pedal sank to the floor. She has also uploaded a video showing how she is using her foot to pull the clutch pedal.

It is most likely to be a hydraulic pressure issue. The slave cylinder of the clutch could have leaked and lost pressure. Since the clutch is not fully engaged, the gear is stuck as well. However, it could be some other problem too. While this is a unique incident, we believe as more people get the delivery of the Scorpio-N, we will be able to understand if this is a widespread problem.

However, facing such an issue on the second of the new car is unacceptable for any manufacturer.

The last week has been busy for Mahindra with recalls. The company first announced the recall for the Mahindra XUV700, Thar and the XUV300.

Mahindra has done a massive recall for the XUV700 diesel manual and automatic variants and Thar diesel variants recently. The brand has also recalled the XUV700’s petrol variants.

The XUV700 and Thar diesel variants will get a new turbocharger actuator linkage. The petrol XUV700 will be inspected for the T-Block connector installations on the Gas Vent Pipes and canister. The brand has not given out information on the affected number of units yet. However, it is likely to be large in number, given the high demand for both vehicles in the market.

This is the fourth recall for Mahindra XUV700. Earlier, Mahindra issued a critical recall alert for the XUV700 to fix the alternator belt and auto-tensioner pulley. The last recall also addressed the Electronic Steering Column Lock or ESCL.

The other two recalls were for the all-wheel drive variants of the XUV700. Mahindra checked the prop shaft and replaced the part, if necessary. This comes after Mahindra engineers said that they got extra time for testing due to the COVID-19 lockdowns and were able to fix numerous issues.

Mahindra also recalled the XUV300 to fix the clutch issues. We are not sure if the issues are similar to Scorpio-N’s problems.
